Trying to become a parent seems harder than ever nowadays. And once you have children, navigating your job and career while balancing your responsibilities at home is more challenging than ever.
While experiencing infertility is never a burden anyone should have to face, there is a growing contingent of Chicago companies that are making it easier to navigate through it.
They are saying it’s not ok to leave women and families alone in their struggles and they’re taking action to help. Each have their own approach to make an impact, and collectively, are making Chicago a great place to be for growing families.
Shine is a fertility support community built by women for women. The struggle to conceive comes with an extreme amount of emotional trauma - is it your fault? Is it someone else's? Why isn’t it working and what can you do? What if you lose?
Shine pairs people with mentors, holds monthly support groups, and hosts events throughout the city, so women can get together and get real on what they’re facing.
Why we love Shine: Because it’s critical to have someone who understands how lonely and difficult it is to struggle to conceive, and to share your burden with.
Tia Gendusa is the definition of a warrior. In the fertility sense, she fought for five years- unsuccessfully going through four egg retrievals, three embryo transfers, and suffering two miscarriages. But today, Tia is more than just an IVF warrier. She spreads awareness about infertility and for everything that comes afterward, whether that means success or not. Her desire to be a strong voice and speak for all those non-mothers after years of fertility treatments, led her to create her own stage.
Founded this year, the InfertileAF summit in Chicago is a first of its kind gathering to change the Infertility diagnosis from a label of shame to a badge of honor. The summit, taking place during National Infertility Awareness Week, gained national attention and sold out within one week.
“We offer a unique perspective within the Infertility Community because we are both former patients. We have towed the line with treatment and have found success with completely different outcomes” said Lindsay Fischer, one of the two founders of InfertileAF. “The summit acts as a hub to unite a community desperately seeking understanding and empowerment.”
While the event is sold out, we believe this summit will continue to grow as more individuals seek to validate their successes beyond the pregnancy test. To follow this Chicago based event and hopefully attend the next one, check out their site.
Why we love InfertileAF: Because it f’ing sucks to be infertile and these ladies nail the fact that sometimes you need to be raw about it.
After hearing too many heartbreaking stories about people struggling to start a family, finding out their health insurance wouldn't cover them, and not being able to afford treatments… Nubundle was born. We felt the need to try and solve a problem for the millions of individuals that struggle quietly and are left behind in the healthcare system
Nubundle makes it affordable for companies of all sizes and budgets, to offer great family planning and fertility services benefits. Our concierge platform provides easy access to fertility experts, along with clear and relevant expert content. We have partnerships with top clinics and pharmacies to offer preferred pricing, and we make financing of any costs related to treatment as simple and straightforward as possible.
Why we love Nubundle: We’re clearly a little biased here! We’re driven by our belief that everyone should have an equal opportunity to start a family, and everything we do embodiesthis belief.
Another way Chicago sets itself apart from other cities in the fertility industry is through the woman-owned clinic, Vios Fertility Institute. The doctors at Vios are committed to helping patients find their way to fertility health and treatment with the highest chance of success by providing them with innovative, scientific, cutting-edge treatment options along with an unparalleled patient experience.
What’s unique about Vios is the passionate team of clinical and laboratory staff that give their all to each patient’s care. Dr. Roohi Jeelani, a reproductive endocrinologist at Vios, said she loves being an integral part of building a family and enjoys the expression of pure gratitude when families find out they’re expecting. Nubundle partnered with Vios Fertility Institute to provide our Members with the best fertility care.
